Charity backs legal action against PCT

A high-profile charity is backing legal action against a primary care trust which it says is operating an "unlawful" blanket ban on sight-saving treatments.
On Thursday Mr Justice Underhill confirmed a judicial review of the Warwickshire Primary Care Trust's policy is expected to be heard in the High Court in July.
All three claimants in the case suffer from the sight-threatening condition wet AMD, or age-related macular degeneration, and are being supported by the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).
Steve Winyard, RNIB's head of campaigns, said the trust claims to be operating a policy where they consider treatment on an individual basis.
However Mr Winyard said: "As far as we understand they have not funded a single case of anti-VEGF treatment, rejecting over 50 requests by patients in their care."
Anti vascular endothelial growth factor medications (anti-VEGF) can reduce the growth of new blood vessels, slow their leakage and slow down vision loss.
