Bond movie party is just the ticket

31 October 2008

As the latest James Bond movie takes the box office by storm, some lucky cinema-goers had a special mission of their own last Thursday evening – enjoying a charity preview at the Gerrards Cross Odeon.

Leading Thames Valley legal firm B P Collins invited special guests to an exclusive showing of Quantum of Solace to raise funds for Scannappeal’s Cancer Fighting Fund, which helps local cancer patients.

And to set the tone for the night, the firm’s corporate and litigation teams hosted a pre-screening drinks reception for their movie-going guests at its Station Road headquarters, complete with 007-themed décor and music.

David Stanning, partner in the corporate and commercial practice said: "With Daniel Craig’s reinvention of James Bond, the new movie is set to be phenomenally successful. Inviting some of our clients and associates to a charity screening was the perfect opportunity to support this fantastic local charity and give people a great night out at the same time."

Bryan Rigby, chairman of Scannappeal, attended the reception and gave a speech at which he thanked B P Collins for its continued support and provided an overview of the charity’s background and activities.

One of those attending, Dick Munro, director of Finance and Administration of Gallowglass UK in London, commented afterwards: "Thank you so much for a fabulous evening last night. That was the first time that I’ve been to your very smart offices and it has to be said they were very well decked out for the event."

The charity screening raised an estimated £5,000 for Scannappeal and guests had the chance to find out more about the tricks of the movie trade thanks to a special behind-the-scenes talk and introduction from the film’s executive producer Tony Waye.

There was also the chance to follow in James Bond’s tyre tracks and win a fabulous day on the Aston Martin test track, thanks to an auction hosted by Trevor Kent at the cinema.
