Business Rate Supplement Bill 'will affect local firms'
03 July 2009![]()
Companies throughout the country will find themselves starved of cash when the Business Rate Supplement Bill receives its Royal Assent, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has warned. David Frost, Director-General of the BCC, revealed that the bill would be "deeply worrying" for those affected.
He continued: "Companies are already paying business rates, corporation tax, VAT and National Insurance. On top of this, they could also be looking at a combination of Business Rate Supplements, congestion charging and a workplace parking levy." The BCC is proposing that the legislation should only be applied to infrastructure projects and it should be necessary to pass a vote before it can be applied in each case.
If the Business Rates Supplement Bill is passed, companies may find that decision-making could unilaterally lie with local authorities, which may have an impact on the wider economy.
