More needs to be done to tackle City corruption, says expert
20 June 2008
The chair of the Treasury select committee has called on the government to do more to tackle corruption in the City of London.
John McFall told BBC Radio 4's PM programme said the main issues include rogue trading and insider dealing.
The Committee has also recently criticised the Financial Services Authority (FSA) over inherited estates, with MoneyMarketing reporting the group thought the FSA was not providing a robust enough framework to manage conflicts of interest.
On the issue of corruption in the City, Mr McFall said he had been pressing the government "to ensure they introduce a form of plea bargaining for individuals, because if you look at the situation regarding prosecutions in this area it is nothing short of abysmal".
The Treasury select committee examines the expenditure, administration and policy of HM Treasury, HM Revenue and Customs and other bodies including the Bank of England and FSA.
