An engineer has brought a race discrimination case against photocopying technology firm Xerox after he was allegedly exposed to bullying at work.

The Daily Mail reports 40-year-old Nardos Mulugeta from Ethiopia has applied for £8,068,000 in compensation for race discrimination and constructive dismissal.

He told a tribunal he was driven to attempt suicide twice after he was subjected to routine abuse from a colleague.

According to the Metro newspaper Mr Mulugeta told the hearing that Jeff Sarling said of him "lucky he's working with us – his grandfather used to work as a servant."

Xerox is denying all the allegations, heard at a tribunal in Stratford, east London.

The former employee, a Fulham resident, also claims bosses did not allow him to attend a counselling appointment set up by his GP.

He also alleges Xerox refused a request that he be transferred to another site to reduce the risk of self-harm, even though his GP and the company's own doctor had backed the idea.
