Government addresses employment law costs

The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform has launched a new campaign aimed at addressing the costs of complying with employment legislation.
Its Employing People campaign forms part of the government's Employment Law Guidance Programme that is intended to show businesses how to make savings and meeting their "legal obligations".
Employment relations minister Pat McFadden said: "Complying with legislation can be complex at times but employment law is often easier than business owners think."
The campaign has been welcomed by the Confederation of British Industry, with its director of employment policy Katji Hall stating that small businesses would benefit from the scheme.
Earlier this month, the department launched a new consultation into proposals intended to place a limit on the cost of new regulation and setting budgets for government departments.
Business secretary John Hutton said too many rules can "stifle enterprise" but effective regulations can "drive competition and boost productivity" among UK businesses.
