Pre-nuptials 'increasingly the norm'

Pre-nuptial agreements are becoming the norm rather than the exception among more well-off couples, according to a new report.
Wealth Bulletin reports a survey from accountants Grant Thornton has found three-quarters of family lawyers have seen increases in pre-nuptials over the last 12 months.
The publication said some respondents had noted the number of people signing agreements had gone from around one in ten a few years ago to around 60 per cent now.
Kevin Morgan of advisory firm Consilium Financial Planning added although it sounded "clinical", pre-nuptials were "an increasingly important" consideration when entering a marriage or civil partnership contract.
Last month the Law Commission announced it will to undertake a 2009 review of the legal status of agreements made between spouses or civil partners, although its suggested changes will not be published until 2012.
Prenuptial agreements are not currently legally binding in Britain but are used as guidance by courts.
The commission's review will consider whether and under what circumstances such agreements should be made enforceable.
