Students from schools in and around Buckinghamshire competed in Wycombe Phoenix Harriers' annual cross-country event on Saturday 3 November, at Hughenden Park in High Wycombe.
The event, sponsored by Thames Valley law firm B P Collins, was particularly well supported by parents, press and local residents, and included athletes from years 5 and 6, and under 13, 15, 17 and 18s.
The course proved to be a stern test for all participants, as the route passed over the picturesque but hilly terrain of the Hughenden Valley. The event was made even more challenging by a stream, which proved a welcome addition for many of its young competitors.
B P Collins' senior marketing executive, Samantha Howe, presented individual and school team awards to the successful participants, and the firm donated water to the exhausted runners on completion of the course.
The law firm has sponsored the running club for a number of years, including kit sponsorship for all of its members, and has former club members on its payroll. The current sponsorship of Wycombe Phoenix Harriers forms part of the strategy to support and sponsor local community clubs and projects in and around the Buckinghamshire area.
The Wycombe Phoenix Harriers sports club was formed in 1912 and strives to be a community based athletics club, supporting athletes at all levels up to Olympic standard. In recent years, the clubs athletes have enjoyed major success winning national titles and international honours.
