PRESS RELEASE
Jeremy Mills, who practises in Gerrards Cross, has been appointed as a Notary Public by no less than the Archbishop of Canterbury, becoming one of only around 900 members of this third oldest branch of the legal profession in the UK.
The primary role of the Notary is to authenticate documents for use in overseas jurisdictions. Typically these will relate to powers of attorney, the purchase or sale of land and property, the administration of the estate of people who live or own property abroad, applications for immigration or emigration, and applications to marry or work abroad.
With more and more people buying property abroad, there is an increasing need for the services of Notaries, of which there is national shortage. As Mr Mills commented: "Everyone seems to be doing it, but not enough people are aware of the pitfalls of entering into property transactions outside the UK. In many countries, it's a legal requirement to have your documentation validated by a Notary, so if you haven't taken these steps you risk coming up against legal difficulties later on, delaying or even jeopardising the completion of your property contract."
Like most Notaries, Mr Mills is a qualified lawyer and is also a partner in the private client practice of Thames Valley solicitors B P Collins.
For more information about using the services of a Notary, contact
