Green homes manual to tackle CO2 emissions published

25 June 2008

The National Affordable Homes Agency has published an environmental retrofit manual to tackle household carbon dioxide emissions.

Fit for the Future has been designed for social landlords who are responsible for five million homes throughout the UK, representing more than one-fifth of all households.

It was launched by housing minister Iain Wright and aims to help the government meet its target of reducing carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050.

Mr Wright said the government is committed to improving household energy efficiency and reducing emissions through energy-saving features and tightening building regulations.

"One of the biggest challenges facing this country is tackling climate change, and with homes accounting for around a quarter of carbon emissions in this country it is clear we all have to work harder to reduce this," he added.

Mr Wright added that people need to take practical measures to reduce their emissions.

The manual includes advice on delivering environmental improvements and reviews of energy efficiency technology as well as detailed technical information.
