Launch of Zero Carbon Hub

11 July 2008

A new scheme called the Zero Carbon Hub has been formed to help officials and property builders work towards ambitious pollution reduction targets.

The project has been established with a view to ensuring all new homes are zero CO2 emission standard by 2016.

The new delivery body will lead and manage a series of work streams to drive forward the implementation of the policy.

UK Green Building Council chief executive Paul King has been appointed as chairman of the Zero Carbon Hub board.

He said: "This represents a commitment from both private and public sectors to find solutions that enable the delivery of an ambitious but necessary policy."

Also involved in the board are representatives from the Department of Communities and Local Government, National House-Building Council (NHBC), the Home Builders Federation, Construction Products Association and the Local Government Association.

The NHBC welcomed the launch of the project, saying it had an "enormous" role to play in the future of sustainable homes.
