"Strong correlation" between house prices and divorce rates

Experts have suggested there is a "strong correlation" between the price of houses and the country's divorce rate.
Following recent reports that many divorced couple are having to stay in the same home because they cannot sell their property, Savills Research has claimed couples may stay together when house prices are low.
The firm's director Lucian Cook argued this is because couples believe they will have less equity to divide between them when they sell up.
"As house prices rise home owners undoubtedly feel wealthier and our supposition is that they also feel able to afford to get divorced," Mr Cook remarked.
The company predicts the recent fall in house prices will see fewer divorces and continue the reduction in the overall number of divorces, he added.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics showed recently the provisional divorce rate in England and Wales fell to its lowest level last year since 1981.
