Google project may face UK legal challenge

A legal challenge could be brought to internet firm Google if a form of online mapping already available in the US appears in the UK.
Google Street View takes pictures of everyday life in certain locations to build an online profile, with camera vans for the technology recently spotted in Britain.
The process could contravene European privacy and data protection laws with UK group Privacy International already saying it breaks British rules, according to The Telegraph.
Quoted by the paper, Simon Davis of Privacy International, said: "In our view they need a person's consent if they make use of a person's face for commercial ends."
The paper also reports Privacy International will take the matter to the Information Commissioner unless Google agrees to blur out British number plates and faces.
Privacy International is a human rights group based in London and aims to act as a watchdog on surveillance and privacy invasions by governments and corporations.
