A new competition has been launched by the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) to show young people how to protect their own creativity.
In partnership with Young Enterprise, the Company Programme is intended to demonstrate how to identify intellectual property (IP) and how to avoid contravening existing laws.
The competition is available to all Young Enterprise Company Programme students and the winning team will be presented with a £500 cheque.
Robin Webb, director of innovation at the UK IPO, said that because those who participate in the company competition are the most likely to set up businesses later on in life, it is important they are aware of their IP rights.
"This competition will make students think about their intellectual assets and how important intellectual property is to the economy," he remarked.
Last month, the UK IPO held an event in Newbury to provide advice and practical help to small and medium-sized businesses in the area.
The event was held in partnership with the West Berkshire council's trading standards service and Business Link.
