New UK-IPO appointment to help businesses

18 August 2008

The appointment of a new director of international policy will enable the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK-IPO) provide assistance to businesses operating globally, it has been claimed.

Ian Fletcher, chief executive of the UK-IPO, said he was "delighted" with the appointment of Peter Holland to the new position.

Mr Holland was previously the head of the Afghanistan Strategy Team with the Cabinet Office, having also spent three years at the British High Commission in India.

Announcing his appointment, Mr Fletcher said the new director would bring a "breadth of talent and experience".

"It is essential that in our policy work we make full use of the resources and talents of the FCO [Foreign and Commonwealth Office]," he remarked.

Mr Holland joins the office at an "exciting time", he added, stating that the body is preparing to "help UK companies to compete in the global economy".

Earlier this month, the UK-IPO launched new guidance to help small businesses to make the most of their intellectual property.

The publication included advice on how to carry out "productive" intellectual property licensing agreements.
