'Never too soon' to plan for IHT

29 September 2008

It is never too early to plan the best way to deal with inheritance tax (IHT), an expert states.

A spokesperson for FinancialAdvice.co.uk warns that over the last ten years, there has been a considerable rise in the number of people being caught out by IHT.

The commentator explains the current house prices mean many estates are valued at more than £300,000 per person, before considering savings and insurance.

However, there are ways to maximise the assets left behind, they state.

"This is not tax evasion of any kind this is professional tax planning for the future to make use of the current regulations available," the expert adds.

Such comments were reinforced recently by Gary Festa, the director of wealth management organisation HFM Columbus, who warned the rules governing IHT have changed over recent years.

However, he argued there are options which can benefit anyone, no matter what size estate they leave behind.
