Older people 'failing to make wills'

A number of older people are feeling the pressure of the rising cost of living and are therefore failing to make wills, it has been claimed.
Paul Gachet, managing director of Exclusively Wills, said the type of people who are not making wills tend to be older and without many assets.
Many are on a fixed income and are being affected by recent rises in both fuel and food costs, Mr Gachet explained.
"Something's got to give, so they won't make a will," he added.
Last month, the government announced that the statutory legacy left to married couples when one partner dies without making a will are to be increased.
However, justice minister Bridget Prentice said it is "important" that both men and women make arrangements for their loved ones.
Couples should not assume that if their partner dies they will be entitled to all of their assets, she said, urging people not to "leave it to chance".
Instead, they should ensure their loved ones are "properly provided for by leaving a will", the minister advised.
