A case currently being heard by courts has prompted one expert to urge people to consider their families when writing a will.
Christine Gill has brought a case against the RSPCA after her parents left the charity £2.3 million in their will, the Daily Mail reports.
Her mother, Joyce Gill, left Potto Carr Farm, hundreds of acres of land and a substantial amount of money to the society.
She is contesting the will by claiming her parents were not of sound mind, demonstrating the need for people to discuss such issues with their families, the newspaper notes.
Debra Chalmers, fundraiser at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, which often receives funds bequeathed to it in wills, said many charities now undertake "legacy marketing" in an effort to raise funding from such sources.
"But I would urge anyone considering leaving us money to put their family and friends first," she told the Mail.
According to Ms Chalmers, Kew often keeps the family of the donor involved, highlighting projects that show "how the money is being spent".
